Norsk Målungdom

Norsk Målungdom

Norsk Målungdom (Unofficial translation: The Norwegian Language Youth) is an organization of youth working for the written language of neo-Norwegian (Nynorsk) and the Norwegian dialects. Norsk Målungdom (shortened NMU) is the youth organization of Noregs Mållag.

Neo-Norwegian (nynorsk) is used by somewhat less than half a million people around 10-15% of the population and is based on Norwegian dialects (particularly in Western Norway and inner parts of the country). On the other hand, the dominant written language in Norway, dano-Norwegian (Bokmål), is an adaptation of the Danish language used as a written standard in Norway since about 1500.
