Marcos Eduardo Elias, born 16 May 1971 in São Paulo, Brazil, is a financier, stock investor and robotics engineer. He gained notoriety as a stock analyst, and thereafter, as a fund manager.
He founded Galleas Asset Management, a multiproduct asset management firm, and Empiricus Research, first Brazilian equity research house independent of financial institutions. Currently, he is the chief investment officer of Galleas and a contributor of Empiricus.
He is a Professor at the Economics School of Fundação Getúlio Vargas, lecturing on Non-Gaussian Finance for the Masters of Economics program.

Personal life
Marcos Eduardo Elias is the only male child of Wilson Elias (Brazilian, Syrian descendant, belonging to Al-Akhras family, Homs) and Lúcia Thereza Falanga (Brazilian, Italian descendant, whose parents are from Torre del Greco and Lauria). He holds dual citizenship (Brazilian and Italian) and he has two sisters: Ana Paula, economist from PUCSP, and Fernanda Elias, who is a veterinarian doctor, having earned advanced degrees at Universidade de São Paulo.
Marcos is married to Joelma Garcia de Andrade (since April 15, 2000), a computer analyst, from PUCSP, born in Penápolis, São Paulo on April 11, 1973. Together, they have two children, Enzo de Andrade Elias, born on November 13, 2007, and Aldo de Andrade Elias, born in November, 2009.
Education
His early education occurred at a Catholic school in São Paulo named Colégio Pio XII and Colégio Etapa. He was the best student ever enrolled in the history of Colégio Pio XII, even though there is no base to support this fact.
At the age of 15, he succeeded to pass the exams qualifying for the Chemical Institute [1] at The University of São Paulo, but he was unable to formally register for the course due to legal restrictions of age.
He joined the Mechatronics Engineering course at The Polytechnical School of The University of São Paulo [2] in 1989, where he was chosen to participate in special training (PET-1992) Programa Especial de Treinamento for outperforming students. He participated under the supervision of Giorgio Eugenio Oscare Giacaglia (1), former consultant of NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration). As final project of the course,he has implemented a complex prototype of an electric myofunctional machine to support assisted walking for paraplegics.
He holds a Master of Business Administration degree from University of Pittsburgh, at Pennsylvania. He is consider by many a solid mathematician, having developed a relationship with John Forbes Nash, Jr., who he has met in a Workshop of The Game Theory Society held in São Paulo.
Professional Life
Before entering the financial market industry, Marcos was a business analyst at Ernst & Young, and at Monitor Group, where he firstly met Tom Copeland. Thereafter, they developed consultancy services for Latam clients.
After 10 years working as an equity analyst for local and international banks, such as BNP Paribas and Banco Brascan Brascan, in the early 2002 he co-founded GAS Investimentos, thereafter acquired by Vinci Partners today one of the largest independent equity houses in Brazil. Two years later, he left GAS/Vinci to become partner at Link Investimentos.
In 2006, he started his own asset management house, Galleas, which currently manages above US$ 100 million of assets under management. His management style calls for concentration and long-period long positions in small and mid-cap companies. He is suspected to hold the largest minority stake of Inepar/IESA. He is also a former member of the Board of Directors of Medial Saúde.
In 2009 he has founded Empiricus Research House.
He has published a novel in 2009 entitled Jus Sanguinis.
