British rule inIndia by political agent Kernel Singh. This was the first English school in thesaurashtra (region) , which was originally called "Rajkot English School" was founded onOctober 17 ,1853 . It later became a full fledged high school By 1868 AD. It came to be known as the "Rajkot High School" in 1886. It was named Alfred High School in the late 1907. The present buildings of the Alfred High School were built forKathiawar by HHNawab of Junagadh in memory of H.R.H. the Duke of Edinburgh. This School was opened in January, 1875 by H.E. Sir Philip Wodehouse, KCB & GCSI,Governor of Bombay .
