- Prem Parkash
Sahitya Akademi (Indian academy of letters) award-winner Prem Parkash (born April 7, 1932. Khanna. Ludhiana District) is one of the major short story writers in post-1947 East Punjabi literature. The pre-dominant theme of his work is social and sexual taboos. The Punjabi literature is predominantly Sikh and him being a Hindu he has depicted the psyche of Punjabi Hindus. He has published seven collections of short stories and has been editing an iconoclast bi-monthly "Lakeer" (The Line) since 1971. His controversial novel "Dastavez" (The Document) on the Maoist-Naxalite movement in East Punjab was published in 1973. Selections from his work have been translated in to Indian languages including English. Film actor-director Deepti Naval is to make a full-length film based on his masterpiece story "Deadline" in 2008. The story is about incestous relationship.
He worked as a journalist and after his retirement lives in Jalandhar with his family.
