The band was initially formed by neighborhood friends in
Oakland, California and after catching the eyes and ears of Joe Jackson (Father of the J5) at the BRE convention in Los Angeles, the band landed a recording contract withQuincy Jones ' QWEST Records.In 1984, Radiance signed to QWEST Records/Warner Bros., and released the LP "Pick 'n Choose" in 1985 which yielded the hit single "All Night" which scored in the "Billboard" black singles top 100 chart (#81) and the maxi-single "All Night/Where Da Freaks At?" which peaked at #44 on the "Billboard" Hot Dance Music / Maxi-Singles chart. Radiance was known for their electrifying stage performance similar to that of The Jacksons but tensions from within the group built over the late 1980's and the group's second album was recorded but never released. Radiance disbanded in 1987.
