Rupert Raj

Rupert Raj is a transgender male, trans activist, psychotherapist, researcher, writer, consultant.He transitioned in 1971. From 1971 to 1990, he provided peer education, counseling and advocacy for the transsexual/transvestite and medical/psychological communities across Canada and in the United States. Currently he works as a psychotherapist who offers peer counseling to the gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender community at the Sherbourne Health Centre in Toronto.He has received two lifetime achievement awards for his decades of transactivism across Canada and the US.Rupert is featured in the 1999 video, "Rupert Remembers," in a 2000/2001 Canada-wide TV documentary series, "Skin Deep" (Episodes 8 & 31), and in a 2001 video, "Rewriting the Script: A Love Letter to Our Families," reflecting the experiences of queer South Asians and their families (produced by the Desi Queer Video Collective) [Pride Award for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Transsexual and Two Spirited Issues (http://www.toronto.ca/civicawards/2007winners.htm#pride)] .
