USS "Thunder" (1862) was a blockade running steamer captured by the
Union Navy during theAmerican Civil War ."Thunder" was purchased by the Union Navy at the
prize court and outfitted her as aship's tender used to support Union ships in the South Atlantic blockade of theConfederate States of America .Captured by Union Navy forces
Blockade runner , "Annie Dees", was captured by Union screw gunboat "Seneca" offCharleston, South Carolina , on20 November 1862 and was purchased by the Navy from theNew York City Prize Court on9 December 1863 .Service with the Union Navy
Renamed "Thunder", the
sloop joined theSouth Atlantic Blockading Squadron for use as aship’s tender . During October1864 , she operated offWassaw Sound , Georgia, and returned toPort Royal, South Carolina , in November for repairs."Thunder" serviced blockade vessels off the
Savannah River , Georgia, in January and February1865 and spent most of the remaining months of the war on duty offTybee Island ,South Carolina .Post-war decommissioning
"Thunder" was sold at Port Royal on
