nihongo|"Dragon Ball Z"|ドラゴンボールZ|Doragon Bōru Zetto is a video game for arcades based on the anime Dragon Ball Z.

Overview

It was designed and manufactured exclusivy in Japan by Banpresto in 1993. The game's cabinet was unique for being shaped like a robot with markings similar to Son Goku's gi, that held a monitor and controls. Although the game was a Japanese exclusive, rumors have persisted for some time that imported copies of the game and it's sequel have appeared in the US. However both games have become available to English speaking fans through emulation.

Game Play

The game features large sprites and a color palate that is identical Toriyama's water color scheme in the manga. The environments are semi destructible as chunks of wall or ground could be destroyed. The controls are unique as most of the characters movements are flight related. With the standard kick and punch, players could double tap forward on their joystick to charge their opponent as an attack. Special attacks can be somewhat difficult to perform in the game. The game also featured Super Saiyan Son Goku as secret character which could be accessed if the player as Goku was defeated a certain number of times.
