Albio Sires who stepped down as Speaker at the end of the previous term. Roberts served as the Assembly's Majority Leader from 2002-2006, as the Minority Budget Officer from 1996-1998 and as Assistant Minority Leader 1994-1995. Assemblyman Roberts graduated with a B.A. fromRutgers University in Political Science and received an M.A. from the Fels Institute of Government at theUniversity of Pennsylvania in Administration.He was one of the major players in the
2006 New Jersey State Government shutdown .District 5
