The name of the place comes from the Tinkunia Pukhuri (the lake with three sides) located at the heart of the town. Tinsukia is also a major railhead of Assam. It is one of the fastest developing cities of India and one can travel there either by train or by a flight toDibrugarh and then a taxi. Tinsukia also acts as a link to all other cities in the north east of India. Presently it houses the biggest railway station of Assam.Geography
