Paul Mullen, born in Houghton-le-Spring (September 6, 1982), is the backing vocalist and rhythm guitarist currently for Cardiff based act The Automatic [ [http://www.thisisfakediy.co.uk/articles/7434/The-Automatic-Confirm-New-Member.html The Automatic Confirm New Member] ] [ [http://www.bbc.co.uk/wales/music/sites/automatic/pages/news.shtml Automatic web snippets] ] , he is also the lead vocalist for Washington, Tyne and Wear based whom are currently on hiatus.

It was announced that he is not the direct replacement for Pennie, in fact Paul will be acting as the bands rhythm guitarist and backing vocalist. The band also are reported to have 20 songs demoed and ready to record, half of which were written while Alex Pennie was still touring with the band, and the other half have been written with since he joined. Paul fills his spare time maintaining a paper based hard copy of the internet he has been keeping as part of an art project since 2002.
