Biography

Musical career

Alex joined The Automatic three years after Iwan, James and Rob, who had decided to replace their second guitarist with a keyboard and synth player.

Alex Pennie was on "Never Mind the Buzzcocks", on 23 November.

On January 9, 2007 Alex, and former band mate Robin Hawkins stood in for Zane Lowe on BBC Radio 1.

After splitting from The Automatic it was reported by NME that Pennie is currently living out in Brighton, Massachusetts, USA. As of September 2008 Alex announced his new band decimals. [http://www.myspace.com/decimalsmusic] .

Personal life

Alex Pennie is known to be good friends with Gallows, especially front man Frank Carter. Pennie has, on several occasions, performed with Gallows live, both on the Warped Tour and South By Southwest festival, as well as during live shows and various interviews. Frank has often slated The Automatic. Pennie is also friends with The Horrors, despite "not enjoying" their music and the complicated relationship between the band and the Automatic; both bands took shots at each other, despite touring together in 2007.

Departure from The Automatic

Problems were first published by NME in May 2007, saying that whilst Alex enjoyed making music with his bandmates and they were all friends he had a different upbringing, and has different tastes in music and different friends. [NME 19 May 2007 Page 35]

After further speculation it was announced on September 18 2007 by the band that's Alex Pennie had decided to leave the band, performing for the final time at Get Loaded In The Park 2007. Some time later the band spoke out about the departure of Pennie stating "Pennie left because we “weren’t cool enough”" in an interview with NME, also stating they at the time had had little contact with him, other than over myspace.
