Anthranilate phosphoribosyltransferase

Anthranilate phosphoribosyltransferase

In enzymology, an anthranilate phosphoribosyltransferase (EC number|2.4.2.18) is an enzyme that catalyzes the chemical reaction

:N-(5-phospho-D-ribosyl)-anthranilate + diphosphate ightleftharpoons anthranilate + 5-phospho-alpha-D-ribose 1-diphosphate

Thus, the two substrates of this enzyme are N-(5-phospho-D-ribosyl)-anthranilate and diphosphate, whereas its two products are anthranilate and 5-phospho-alpha-D-ribose 1-diphosphate.

This enzyme belongs to the family of glycosyltransferases, specifically the pentosyltransferases. The systematic name of this enzyme class is N-(5-phospho-D-ribosyl)-anthranilate:diphosphate phospho-alpha-D-ribosyltransferase. Other names in common use include phosphoribosyl-anthranilate pyrophosphorylase, PRT, anthranilate 5-phosphoribosylpyrophosphate, phosphoribosyltransferase, anthranilate phosphoribosylpyrophosphate phosphoribosyltransferase, phosphoribosylanthranilate pyrophosphorylase, phosphoribosylanthranilate transferase, and anthranilate-PP-ribose-P phosphoribosyltransferase. This enzyme participates in phenylalanine, tyrosine and tryptophan biosynthesis and two-component system - general.
