Jennifer Corday

Jennifer Corday (born July 12, 1966), is a singer/songwriter known as Corday from Long Beach, California.

Corday was born and raised in Long Beach, California, where she attended Long Beach schools Tincher, Hill and Wilson. She graduated with honors from Wilson High School, where she enjoyed sports, music and drama and was the school mascot. After graduating, Corday immediately started college at Long Beach City, where she performed as a cellist in the chamber orchestra, and participated as an actress in many productions. She transferred to Chapman University in Orange, CA, where she continued studying theatre and music. She toured Alaska and Hawaii, performing as a cellist in the chamber and symphony orchestras and electric bassist in the jazz ensemble.

While Corday excelled in music, she especially enjoyed the theatre department, where she played leading roles and won numerous awards as an actress. She became interested in directing her senior year where she had the opportunity to produce and direct one-act plays for the public. She graduated with a B.A. in Communications, with minors in Music and English. She spent the summer in Portland, Oregon, returning to Long Beach and working part time at her family's business in Long Beach, Corday Lighting, founded by her grandfather.

Within the year, Corday decided to return to Chapman to study Education. She worked as a substitute teacher in the Orange Unified School District while she completed the program. After securing her Single Subject Clear Teaching Credential, Corday was immediately hired to teach high school drama and English at Paramount High School. She was charismatic and dynamic in the classroom and directed and produced numerous shows, designed and wrote curriculum, acted as Department Chair and the Cheerleading Advisor.

The entertainment business was still tugging at her sleeve, though, as Corday began performing as a singer/songwriter/guitarist in the coffee house circuit. She formed a duo with Renea McKee, which later became the all-girl band, Her Majesty. The group disbanded after releasing their first demo, but Corday forged on as a solo act, eventually forming another band, Corday and the Curious. She resigned from teaching and decided to pursue her dream making a living as an entertainer. She shortened the band name to Corday and founded Envy Records [http://www.envyrecords.com] with partner, Debbie Elmer, to produce and release her own records. Elmer and Corday parted ways and Corday now runs Envy Records on her own.

She has released three critically acclaimed records including her latest, "Superhero", in which Corday co-wrote, recorded, and produced the new record in her home studio before delivering the final tracks to mix-master Gavin MacKillop. It is packaged in a double disc Digipack with a CD and DVD music video of the title track, and includes special behind the scenes footage. Artwork on the album, including the fabulous cover art, is by artist Jamie Kivisto.

Corday's previous albums, "Driven" and "Welcome To My Past", sold thousands of copies and are still selling strong. Her hit song “Pie” has been described by critics as "a radio's dream," and was included on the MTV Undressed soundtrack and in numerous independent films.

Corday founded Venus Envy [http://www.venusenvymusic.com] , an organization celebrating women who rock with profits from compilation CDs going to the fight against breast cancer, in memory of her mother Judy. She also performs at schools everywhere with the full band presenting powerful anti-drug and anti-tobacco concerts.

She has toured overseas to perform for the troops. Corday was named "one of L.A.'s Hottest 100 Artists" by Music Connection Magazine, "one of the Top 10 Albums of the Year" by the L.A. Times, and "the most promising artist on the local scene" by the Orange County Register.
