Transvaal Agricultural Union

The Transvaal Agricultural Union of South Africa is a conservative Agricultural Organization, who’s main goal is the protection of private property rights and safety of South African Farmers. It seeks to protect the agricultural sector in South Africa against the attacks of communism. Faith in the Triune God and the Bible is central to all decision-making and operating of the TAU. The vast majority of the TAU-members are Boere-Afrikaners.

Principles

* The TAU opposes Black Economic Empowerment as a communist principle and an illegal practice of racial discrimination.
* The insurance of economic growth within the agricultural sector.
* The insurance of the safety of South African Farmers.
* The TAU attempts continuing dialogue with the government over issues within the agricultural sector.
* The protection the South-African Farmer’s right to private property, to exercise his calling as a farmer.
* The insurance of food-security of South Africa.
* The protection of the Boere-Afrikaner’s right to freedom of association.
* Emphisizing the Agricultural sector’s role in the economy.

Structure

The TAU has been in existence since 1897. Although it was an organisation exclusively for farmers in the Transvaal at first, many farmers from other South African Provinces have joined the organization in recent years, because of dissatisfaction with other, liberal agricultural organizations throughout the country. It has a large number of members the Free State. The current president is Paul Van der Walt and the Vice-President is Wille Lewies. It also has 7 district chairmen throughout the country. It holds it’s national congress annually.
