Synanthropes (from the Greek "syn-", "together with" + "anthro", "man") are
animal s, often (but not necessarily) consideredpest s, which are notdomesticated but live near and benefit fromhuman s.The term is related to studies of
ecology and relates to animals who have benefited from the long term selection of species conducted by man over millennia—artificial selection . Examples of synanthropes would berodent s, sparrows, pigeons,lice , and other urban animals.Domesticated animals like cows, goats and dogs do not apply to this category.
