Woodland is a
census-designated place (CDP) in Washington County,Maine ,United States . The population was 1,044 at the 2000 census.Woodland is actually a part of the town of
Baileyville, Maine . Because the state of Maine has a law stating that no two towns may share the same name, Woodland of Aroostook County and Woodland of Washington County found themselves before the Maine State Supreme Court in the late 1990s. Because it was founded as a township first, the smaller and arguably lesser known Woodland of Aroostook County was allowed to keep its name and Woodland of Washington County was forced to settle on a new name: "Baileyville."Geography

United States Census Bureau , the CDP has a total area of 1.5square mile s (3.8km² ), of which, 1.1 square miles (3.0 km²) of it is land and 0.3 square miles (0.8 km²) of it (20.69%) is water.Demographics

census GR|2 of 2000, there were 1,044 people, 455 households, and 293 families residing in the CDP. Thepopulation density was 906.7 people per square mile (350.5/km²). There were 553 housing units at an average density of 480.3/sq mi (185.7/km²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 98.66% White, 0.10% African American, 0.10% Native American, 0.19% Asian, 0.10% from other races, and 0.86% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.10% of the population.There were 455 households out of which 28.1% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 50.5% were married couples living together, 10.1% had a female householder with no husband present, and 35.4% were non-families. 30.3% of all households were made up of individuals and 14.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.29 and the average family size was 2.83.
In the CDP the population was spread out with 23.9% under the age of 18, 6.2% from 18 to 24, 26.4% from 25 to 44, 25.4% from 45 to 64, and 18.0% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 41 years. For every 100 females there were 93.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 89.5 males.
The median income for a household in the CDP was $32,179, and the median income for a family was $38,571. Males had a median income of $38,750 versus $21,354 for females. The
per capita income for the CDP was $17,220. About 8.0% of families and 9.5% of the population were below thepoverty line , including 13.5% of those under age 18 and 8.2% of those age 65 or over.References
