Benevolent assimilation

Benevolent Assimilation was a proclamation issued on December 21, 1898 by U.S. President William McKinley to the Philippines. [ [http://www.msc.edu.ph/centennial/benevolent.html McKinley's Benevolent Assimilation Proclamation] ]

The proclamation was later watered down, but then announced in the original form when an official declared repeated the speech in the Philippines, not knowing of the watered down copy.cn|date=January 2008
