Milan. His nickname is "Il Puma" for his feline movements in midfield.

He usually a defensive midfielder. He is best known for midfield engine, tough tackling and team play.

Club

After playing for Bayer Leverkusen, Emerson signed with AS Roma, winning the "Scudetto" and the Italian Super Cup in 2001. His impressive performance for AS Roma in the 2003-04 season lead to Juventus and Real Madrid both seeking to sign him during the summer transfer market. After a pro-longed transfer saga, in which Roma wanted to sell him to Real Madrid instead of league rivals Juventus but Emerson preferred to sign for Juventus, he was sold for a fee around 15 million euros to Juventus, following his former coach Capello's foot steps. After two seasons with Juventus FC with coach Fabio Capello, he moved to Real Madrid in July 19, 2006, again following Capello. However, due to the declining relationship between Emerson and Capello and Emerson's poor performances for Real Madrid the player, in January 2007, declared his desire to return to Juventus, rumoured to be willing to take a pay cut. On August 21, 2007, Milan officially confirmed the transfer of the Brazilian midfielder. Emerson has not been able to contribute to his new club much due to injury, only managing 20 appearances for Milan in the 2007-08 campaign.

National football team

Emerson was a late replacement for Romário at the 1998 World Cup, and then suffered a reversal four years later.
