Juniata is a village in Adams County, Nebraska, United States. The population was 693 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Hastings, Nebraska Micropolitan Statistical Area.

Geography

Juniata is located at coor dms|40|35|29|N|98|30|26|W|city (40.591315, -98.507132)GR|1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 0.5 square miles (1.4 km²), all of it land.

Demographics

As of the censusGR|2 of 2000, there were 693 people, 274 households, and 198 families residing in the village. The population density was 1,319.3 people per square mile (504.8/km²). There were 295 housing units at an average density of 561.6/sq mi (214.9/km²). The racial makeup of the village was 98.56% White, 0.43% African American, 0.29% Native American, 0.14% Asian, and 0.58% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.58% of the population.

There were 274 households out of which 37.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 56.2% were married couples living together, 10.9% had a female householder with no husband present, and 27.4% were non-families. 23.7% of all households were made up of individuals and 5.5% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.53 and the average family size was 2.99.

In the village the population was spread out with 28.7% under the age of 18, 7.6% from 18 to 24, 29.6% from 25 to 44, 25.1% from 45 to 64, and 8.9% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 99.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 101.6 males.

The median income for a household in the village was $32,833, and the median income for a family was $39,250. Males had a median income of $26,300 versus $21,750 for females. The per capita income for the village was $15,009. About 6.2% of families and 8.5% of the population were below the poverty line, including 14.3% of those under age 18 and none of those age 65 or over.
