Plot

"A Doemain of Our Own" follows the life of an anthropomorphic doe, homemaker and part-time artist called Sue Hartland. The strip begins with her and her newlywed husband, computer-programmer Eric, moving into a suburb of Fillydelphia and explores their relationship.cite web|last=Rankin|first=Susan|url=http://www.doemain.com/html/faq.html|title=FAQ|publisher=A Doemain of Our Own|accessdate=2007-12-05] Much of what Sue experiences are things that have happened to Rankin in real-life. For example, Sue goes through surgery that leaves her unable to have children. [cite web|last=Rankin|first=Susan|url=http://www.doemain.com/index.cgi/2001-03-09|title=Sometimes the End is Only the Beginning|publisher=A Doemain of Our Own|date=2001-03-09|accessdate=2008-01-17] This in turn is eventually one of the reasons that Sue and Eric later divorce. Sue is now romantically involved with a tiger called Bennie. Whilst his sexuality is ambiguous, it is clear that Bennie has feelings for Sue. Sue has an unusual family. Her mother is a cat and therefore Sue has fangs. [cite web|last=Rankin|first=Susan|url=http://www.doemain.com/index.cgi/2002-06-14|title=Well, this is just FANGtastic. Pthbt!|publisher=A Doemain of Our Own|date=2002-06-14|accessdate=2008-01-16] She is also descended from Rudolph the Red-Nose Reindeer. Reception

"Doemain" has generally had positive reviews, it being mainly popular within the furry fandom. The strip features characters from other furry webcomics, such as "Jack" and "Vinci and Arty". [cite web|last=Rankin|first=Susan|url=http://www.doemain.com/index.cgi/2004-08-30|title=Might Jack lend a claw? (Thank you, Mr. Hopkins!)|publisher=A Doemain of Our Own|date=2004-08-30|accessdate=2007-12-05] [cite web|last=Rankin|first=Susan|url=http://www.doemain.com/index.cgi/2003-04-14|title=Finally! It's Sue's turn to geek!|publisher=A Doemain of Our Own|date=2003-04-14|accessdate=2007-12-05] Fred Patten, reviewing the first collection of strips for "Anthro" said, "At the time it was supposed to be a slice-of-life comedy. It has remained slice-of-life, although Sue [Rankin] has had to work hard to find comedy in some of what fate has thrown at them. She has, which is why "A Doemain of Our Own" has become one of the most honestly heartwarming strips on the 'Net." Print

There are currently two books published containing strips. The first, "A Doemain of Our Own: Volume 1" (ISBN 1-929462-0-93) was published in 2006, and won the Ursa Major Award for "Best Anthropomorphic Other Literary Work". A second book, "Shift Happens" (ISBN 978-0-9748915-1-4) was published in 2007. The strip is to change from a webcomic into a print comic, but Rankin says she has plans not publish until June 2008.
