The "Scipion" was a French warship of the 18th century.
The French Fleet fought with the United States against the British in the American War of Independence. In October 1782, the "Scipion" and the French warship "Sibylle" were pursued by HMS "London" and HMS "Torbay" off San Domingo. After HMS "London" was damaged by gunfire, the "Scipion" escaped only to strike a rock and sink the following day in Samana Bay.
