George Bernard Flahiff CC, CSB (
October 26 ,1905 –August 22 ,1989 ) was a Canadian Cardinal.Born in
Paris, Ontario , he received aBachelor of Arts degree from theUniversity of Toronto . He was ordained a priest in the Congregation of St. Basil in 1930. He served as the thirdArchbishop ofWinnipeg, Manitoba , from 1960 until 1982. He was created a cardinal by Pope Paul VI in 1969. In 1974, he was made a Companion of theOrder of Canada .Flahiff was one of the
Council Fathers atVatican II and played a key role in the writing of severalConciliar documents.The Cardinal Flahiff Building, which is part of
University of St. Michael's College within theUniversity of Toronto , is named after him.References
