Ran Blake (born
April 20 ,1935 ) is an Americanpianist and composer.He is an important figure in the "
Third Stream " movement initiated by composer andNew England Conservatory of Music presidentGunther Schuller which combined elements of classical and jazz. He is a faculty member at NEC, the first American conservatory to offer a jazz degree, where he has led the Third Stream Department (now known as the Department of ContemporaryImprovisation ) since 1973.
