Way Upstream

"Way Upstream" is a play by Alan Ayckbourn. It was first performed in Scarborough, North Yorkshire, in the Round at the Stephen Joseph Theatre on 2 October 1981.

The London premier was performed at The Lyttelton (National Theatre) on 4 October 1982. It had been postponed since August.

The play became notorious due to its ongoing technical problems, most spectacularly the water tank bursting which flooded the National Theatre. It was noted that during the much delayed premier critics were seen wearing wellington boots.
