Mate Bulić Croatian pronunciation (help·info) (born January 4, 1945 in Blatnica, Čitluk, SR Bosnia and Herzegovina, SFR Yugoslavia) is a Bosnian Croat pop/folk singer.
Many of his songs are influenced by the region of Herzegovina. Bulić finished his schooling in Čitluk and at Mostar, where he graduated in electrical engineering. However, he decided not to pursue a teaching job in Mostar and moved to Frankfurt where he married and began a family. It was not until later that he began to develop his music career.
Although he was always interested in music, it was not until the early 1990s that Bulić began recording, and in 1994 his first album was released. Bulić is known for using numerous elements of traditional Croatian music which he incorporates into his music, such as the use of the lijerica and the singing of ganga. Because his traditional music is widely enjoyed by Croatian diaspora, he has been given the nickname "King of the Diaspora."
Bulić has collaborated with many Croatian artists, most notably his friends Miroslav Škoro and Marko Perković, who has written some of his recent songs. The three are known as "The Three Godfathers" in Croatia.
