SMS "Tegetthoff" was an Austro-Hungarian dreadnought
battleship , named afterWilhelm von Tegetthoff , 19th century Austrian admiral most notable for defeating the Italian Navy in the Battle of Lissa."Tegetthoff" was built at the
Stabilimento Tecnico Triestino yard,Trieste . After theFirst World War she was handed over toItaly , who had her broken up several years later.After construction in 1912 an earlier armored battleship named SMS "Tegetthoff" was renamed SMS "Mars".
After ship was dismantled, one of her main guns was displayed in
Brindisi , at the "Mariner's Monument", where it can still be found. Her ships' bell was donated in 1942 to the Germancruiser "Prinz Eugen".ee also
