Born in
Budapest , Pauk entered theFranz Liszt Academy of Music there aged twelve. He studied there withZoltán Kodály . He won First Prize in thePaganini Competition, the Premier Grand Prix of theJacques Thibaud Competition and First Prize at theMunich Sonata Competition withPeter Frankl .In 1956 he left Hungary for
Holland and after incitement byYehudi Menuhin he settled inLondon in 1961. Since then he has performed as soloist with renownedorchestra s and maestros around the world and as achamber music ian. He has also recorded.He has premiered works by Lutoslawski, Penderecki, Schnittke, Maxwell Davies, and Tippett conducted by the
composer s themselves.He is a
teacher , holding the position ofEde Zathureczky Professor ofViolin at theRoyal Academy of Music and givingmaster class es around the world.György Pauk plays on the Massart
Stradivarius of 1714.György lives with his wife Susie, has two children, Thomas and Katherine and has four grandchildren, Gabriella, Joshua, Sasha and Alina.
