György Pauk

György Pauk (born 1936) [cite web|title=Budapest Spring Festival 2002|url=http://www.festivalcity.hu/btf2002/english_kamaraestek.html|accessdate=2008-01-08] is a Hungarian violinist living in Great Britain.

Biography

Born in Budapest, Pauk entered the Franz Liszt Academy of Music there aged twelve. He studied there with Zoltán Kodály. He won First Prize in the Paganini Competition, the Premier Grand Prix of the Jacques Thibaud Competition and First Prize at the Munich Sonata Competition with Peter Frankl.

In 1956 he left Hungary for Holland and after incitement by Yehudi Menuhin he settled in London in 1961. Since then he has performed as soloist with renowned orchestras and maestros around the world and as a chamber musician. He has also recorded.

He has premiered works by Lutoslawski, Penderecki, Schnittke, Maxwell Davies, and Tippett conducted by the composers themselves.

He is a teacher, holding the position of Ede Zathureczky Professor of Violin at the Royal Academy of Music and giving master classes around the world.

György Pauk plays on the Massart Stradivarius of 1714.

György lives with his wife Susie, has two children, Thomas and Katherine and has four grandchildren, Gabriella, Joshua, Sasha and Alina.
