Frances Rivera

Frances Rivera (born 1970) is a Filipino-American Emmy Award-winning journalist and television news anchor for Boston's NBC affiliate WHDH. Prior to joining WHDH Rivera worked at CBS affiliate KWTV in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and NBC affiliate KFDX in Wichita Falls, Texas. Rivera also worked off camera in New York City for CBS News' "The Morning Show" and covered the 1996 Presidential campaign. She was also a co-host and reporter for the PBS show "Asian America".

When she was three years old, she and her family, including her two brothers, moved from the Philippines to Austin, Texas. Sometime afterward, they moved and settled in Dallas. She was sent by her family to finish her studies in the Philippines which she did, receiving her bachelor's degree in journalism from the University of the Philippines. This also helped her appreciate more fully and learn more about her Filipino heritage and culture which she enjoyed and loved. After graduation she returned to the United States to take a job at CBS Morning News in New York City.

In 2003, Frances married Stuart Fraass, a Boston mortgage broker, and in 2006 she was promoted to the news anchor chair at WHDH TV.

Besides her ability and interest in cooking, doing a TV news segment called "The Dish", she is very active in numerous charities in and around Boston. [cf. Diaz, 2007. She was in Boston's Quincy Market in the winter collecting gifts for needy children.]
