2-pyrone-4,6-dicarboxylate lactonase

2-pyrone-4,6-dicarboxylate lactonase

In enzymology, a 2-pyrone-4,6-dicarboxylate lactonase (EC number|3.1.1.57) is an enzyme that catalyzes the chemical reaction

:2-pyrone-4,6-dicarboxylate + H2O ightleftharpoons 4-carboxy-2-hydroxyhexa-2,4-dienedioate

Thus, the two substrates of this enzyme are 2-pyrone-4,6-dicarboxylate and H2O, whereas its product is 4-carboxy-2-hydroxyhexa-2,4-dienedioate.

This enzyme belongs to the family of hydrolases, specifically those acting on carboxylic ester bonds. The systematic name of this enzyme class is 2-pyrone-4,6-dicarboxylate lactonohydrolase. This enzyme participates in benzoate degradation via hydroxylation.

tructural studies
