La Russell is a city in Jasper County, Missouri, United States. The population was 138 at the 2000 census.

Geography

La Russell is located at coor dms|37|8|27|N|94|3|40|W|city (31.140812, -94.061054)GR|1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 0.3 square miles (0.9 km²), all of it land.

Demographics

As of the censusGR|2 of 2000, there were 138 people, 51 households, and 39 families residing in the city. The population density was 405.2 people per square mile (156.7/km²). There were 55 housing units at an average density of 161.5/sq mi (62.5/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 94.93% White, 2.17% Native American, 0.72% Pacific Islander, and 2.17% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.45% of the population.

There were 51 households out of which 33.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 60.8% were married couples living together, 11.8% had a female householder with no husband present, and 23.5% were non-families. 19.6% of all households were made up of individuals and 11.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.71 and the average family size was 3.03.

In the city the population was spread out with 27.5% under the age of 18, 10.9% from 18 to 24, 29.0% from 25 to 44, 18.8% from 45 to 64, and 13.8% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 31 years. For every 100 females there were 112.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 108.3 males.

The median income for a household in the city was $28,000, and the median income for a family was $21,750. Males had a median income of $28,750 versus $12,000 for females. The per capita income for the city was $10,451. There were 27.0% of families and 26.6% of the population living below the poverty line, including 22.0% of under eighteens and 20.0% of those over 64.
