He wrote an encyclopedic work "Dies caniculares" [ [http://www.fpolar.org.ve/veroes/500/m1/4021.htm MAIOLO, Simeone ] ] (Dog days), covering a wide range of topics innatural history ,demonology and other subjects such aswerewolves . First published in 1597, it ran to several later editions. He is mentioned in the early history of the explanation offossils , byCharles Lyell ["Principles of Geology" (1840) p. 39; [http://www.fordham.edu/halsall/mod/lyel-geology3-4.html] .] , as a pioneer of volcanic explanations.He was born in
