German 1,000 Guineas

German 1,000 Guineas

__NOTOC__The German 1,000 Guineas is a Group 2 flat horse race in Germany open to three-year-old thoroughbred fillies. It is run over a distance of 1,600 metres (approximately 1 mile) at Düsseldorf Racecourse and takes place annually, presently in early June.

It is the German equivalent of the English 1,000 Guineas and was first run in 1919 as the Kisasszony-Rennen at Grunewald, moving to Hoppegarten in 1923. Not contested in 1945 or 1946, it returned with a solitary race each at Cologne (1947) and Krefeld (1948), before transferring in 1949 to Düsseldorf, where it has remained since.

The title of the race was changed in 1941 to the Schwarzgold-Rennen, later becoming the ARAG-Preis (1989 to 1996) and the Henkel-Rennen (1997 to 2005). In 2006 it was run as the Pferdewetten.de-Stutenpreis and in 2007 as the AKDOV-Stutenpreis. From 1972 to 1984 it was classed as a Group 3 race, upgrading to Group 2 status in 1985.

Prior to 2008 the race took place in late April or early May.
