It is an ancient city and is believed to derive its name from
Sahastrabahu , an ancient king andParsuram , the warriorsage .Sasaram is also famous for being the birthplace of
Pashtun Emperor Sher Shah Suri who ruled inDelhi forfive year s, his famousred sandstone mausoleum (122ft high) stands in the middle of an artificial lake, which is known as the secondTaj Mahal of India. And there is another tomb in the middle of green field atSherganj which is known asSukha Rauza . It also has abaulia (small pond used by emperor's consorts for bathing. The NH2 (Grand Trunk Road ) cross from city.Sasaram is also famous for Maa Tara Chandi Temple (where a fantabulous crowd can be always observed in SHRAWAN month or in DUSSEHARA )and also for Kaimur mountain. The two waterfalls which add to sasaram scenic beauty of Sasaram are Manjhar Kund and Dhua Kund. A fair is organised at these places every year after a day of Raksha Bandhan. These two water falls has capacity to generate 50-100 MW of electricity if utilized properly.Sasaram is also famous for Stone Chips and Stone mining industries.Rohtas in south of Sasaram known to be the residence of Satyawadi Raja Harischandra.On the name of his son Rohitashwa the district is so called Rohtas.Sasaram is also famous for the Samrat Ashok pillar (1 of the 13 laghu shilalekh)situated in a small cave of Kaimur hill near Chandan Shaheed. Languages spoken in this region are Bhojpuri,Hindi and Urdu. The great saint Sri Sri Neel Sunder Das.
Geography

metre s (331 feet).Sasaram Railway station is located on the
Grand Chord line of the Indian Railways, connectingCalcutta andDelhi . The famedGrand Trunk Road passes through Sasaram town.The nearby cities are Dehri-on-sone, Bhabua, Varanasi and Gaya. Dehri is about 18 kilometers from Sasaram.It is located on the bank of river SONE and the longest railway bridge of India is located here.sasaram is bestSasaram station is after 100 k.m from Mughai sarai & 100k.m before of Gaya. Rajdhani express is not stop of this station but many other important trains stop here like Kalka mail,Purushootam Exp,Mahabodhi Exp,Kolkata Mail,Jodhpur Exp,Chambal Exp etc.Sasaram is a fabulous city. IT & e-Governance
The First Comman Service Centre (eKiosk) of Rohtas District named SAHAJ Vasudha Kendra, Jamuhar is inaugurated in Jamuhar Village on 15th August 2008. The Information technology revolution will come to village through Vasudha Kendra. The V.L.E., Sahaj Vasudha Kendra, Mr. Kundan Singh Shakrawaria introduce villagers and young boys & girls to how they use the centre for their development and needful. The CSC is ready to help in e-governance facility to Bihar & Central Government. The centre is waiting to start Block information Centre, e-district plan and SWAN, which is in progress.
Under the National e-governance plan of Govt. of India, which was announced by Dr. Manmohan Singh, Hon’ble Prime Minister of India on 15th August, 2005, Implementation of Common Service Centres (CSCs) is the most important event of the four pillars of the NeGP. These Common Services Centres (CSCs) will become Hubs or Community Centres for the delivering all e-governance and other services to the rural people. Demographics
As of 2001 Indiacensus [GR|India] , Sasaram had a population of 131,042. Males constitute 53% of the population and females 47%. Sasaram has an average literacy rate of 65%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 72%, and female literacy is 58%. In Sasaram, 16% of the population is under 6 years of age.Economy
It also has a fertile agricultural hinterland. There are many businessmen who supply rice in other states and Bangladesh also. Many kinds of vegetables are includes in cultivation around Sasaram.
There are many stone industries near, Jamuhar, Karwandia, Tlab and some other places near Sasaram. There are scope to improve this industry by allotting the hills of Kaimur to the entrepreneurs between karwandia and Amra-Talab which is Forest Land in the paper but there is no forest or tree.
There are many scope of other industrial development. Near Sasaram, DALMIANAGAR was famous in Asia for Paper, Sugar, Soap and other many products.Potential for tourism is high but has not been exploited.Gallery
