- Renegades Drum and Bugle Corps
The San Francisco Renegades is an all-age
Drum and Bugle Corps competing in theDrum Corps Associates circuit. The corps is also a 501c3 non-profit organization. They are based inSan Francisco, California .History
The Renegades were founded in 1996 by a small group of people that got together simply for the love of the drum corps activity. In February 1999, the corps put the Renegade 2000 plan into motion, and added an infrastructure that not only included a world-class instructional staff, but a "Promotions Team" that included world-class marketing, financial and legal consultants.
The Renegades made their DCI debut in July 1999, at the Moonlight Classic contest in Stockton, California, and are one of two charter members of the newly formed DCI-Pacific Senior Division. In 2000, the Renegades fielded an expanded corps, which were received with standing ovations at every show. The year culminated with a proclamation by San Francisco Mayor Willie Brown honoring the Renegades as The Official Drum and Bugle Corps of the City of San Francisco.
In 2001, the corps was able to field a full complement of members and performed on tours to the northwest and to the Los Angeles area. Although the Renegades were not able to make to the DCA final as a corps, they were represented by a mini-corps which won first place. In 2002, the Renegades became the first California Senior Corps to compete at DCA Championships, becoming both a finalist and DCA voting member in their first year.
