Healing, Lincolnshire

Healing, Lincolnshire

Healing is a village near Grimsby in North East Lincolnshire, England, between Stallingborough and Great Coates. Its population at the 2001 census was 2,601.

It has two reputable schools, Healing Primary School and Healing Comprehensive. A new estate was built recently which has led to some minor ill-feeling between existing villagers and new residents.

The village is served by a post office, fish and chip shop and hairdressers. Access to a payphone is also available. The village is served by Healing railway station, on the Barton-Cleethorpes line, and local buses stop at the village.

The village also has two local men's football teams, whose success fluctuates from season to season. The village also has a junior football club, Healing Hotspurs, who are an FA Charter Standard Club, and have teams from age 8 to 16. The proposed new Grimsby Town Football Club stadium, though nearer to Great Coates village, lies just within the Healing parish boundary.

The Healing Comprehensive school's previous year eleven team went to France to play in the finals of a 14-16s final

Its name is recorded in the Domesday Book as "Hegelinge" and probably came from Anglo-Saxon "Hægelingas" = "the sons or followers of a man named Hægel".
