Javier Brito

Javier Brito

Javier Jose Brito (born March 25, 1983 in Puerto La Cruz, Venezuela) is a Major League Baseball first baseman who is currently with the Arizona Diamondbacks.

On April 25, 2002, Brito was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Brito began playing in the minor leagues in 2003 for the Missoula Osprey, the Diamondbacks rookie league team. He also played for the Osprey in 2004. He jumped to the next level in 2005, playing in Single-A ball. He played first base as well as beginning to play in the outfield. 2005 also marked the first year in which he was named to an All-Star team.

Brito played for the Lancaster Jethawks, the Diamondbacks high Single-A team, in 2006. He played in 85 gamed, had a batting average of .355, and hit 16 home runs.

In 2007, Brito made the next jump, playing for the Double-A Mobile BayBears. He played in 127 games, hit 11 home runs, and led all of the Southern League with a .327 batting average. He was named to the Southern League midseason and postseason All-Star team. Following the season, the Diamondbacks purchased his contract on November 20, 2007. He is not really part of the Diamondbacks plans for 2008 but they purchased his contract to prevent him from being drafted in the Rule 5 Draft.
