The Queue for the tour was located under a large canopy in front of Sound stage 19 of the park. It featured filmmaking equipment on display as guests would queue. Guests then boarded Tour trams.
Pre-Show
As the tour began, the tram entered a "screening room" sound stage which housed a large screen facing the right of the tram. A video was then projected which showed guests a video of the production going on at the park. The tour then left the screening room and began the tour.
Ride
The tram began by entering and going past the various sound stages at the park, and allowed guests to see production of
Movies andTV programs happening. The tram then entered a sound stage for wardrobe and make-up used in production, and then took a path downward, and entered theSan Francisco area of the park, and informed guests of production going on and hidden secrets in this section. It then continued on doing the same as it traveled by theAmity , "World Expo Center",Woody Woodpecker 's Kidzone, andHollywood areas. It then took a route upward and traveled through theNew York and "Production Central" areas, doing the same. The tram then went pass a "road" between the Boneyard and entrance to the park's Sound stages, informing guests of special information on both. It would then travel down nearNickelodeon Studios where theTram driver would thank guests for joining them, and have them exit into "The Universal Studios Store".The Universal Studios Store
After the tour, guests exited into The Universal Studios Store, which sold many authentic replicas of props and posters from Universal's films along with toys and souvenir books for guests to remember their experience at the park and on the tour. This store remains open today.
History
The tour was somewhat inspired by the Universal Studios Hollywood Tour. The tour was officially titled Production Studio Tram Tour also referred to as The Backlot Tour. The attraction opened with the park on
June 7 ,1990 . It would draw 60- to 120-minute wait times after its debut, however, the tour closed in1995 when staffing cuts were made at the studio. The former queue area was boarded up, and later completely demolished. After the closing, some of the former tour areas became more backstage facilities as well as parts of "Seuss Landing" and "The Lost Continent" at Islands of Adventure.References
