Vostochny Cosmodrome

The Vostochny Cosmodrome is a planned Russian spaceport, to be located in the Amur Oblast, in the Russian Far East. Construction will begin in 2010, after a feasibility study determines its exact location. The site will be used initially to reduce Russia's dependence on the Baikonur cosmodrome, however it is expected to eventually replace it.

Russian authorities reported to the press on November 21 2007 that prime minister Vladimir Putin had signed a decree authorizing the construction of the new launch facility.
