National Energy Marketers Association

National Energy Marketers Association (NEM) is a trade association based in Washington, DC that represents wholesale and retail marketers of natural gas, electricity, as well as energy and financial related products.


NEM's membership includes independent electric power producers, advanced metering, demand and load management firms, and related information technology providers. Some NEM members develop software for energy, advanced metering, information services, finance, risk management and the trading of commodities and financial instruments. NEM members also include inventors, patent holders, systems integrators, and developers of advanced power line surveillance and grid reliability technology with advanced uses in power line communication (PLC) technologies as well as new electrical encoding, applications or decoding known as "Smart Electricity."


NEM lobbies at the state and federal levels as well as participates in regulatory proceedings[1] to encourage retail competition[2] as well as investment in new technologies.
