After lengthy negotiations, where Serie A club Palermo and several Bundesliga teams were also interested, he signed a 5 year deal worth NOK10 mill (£900 000) with Norwegian club Viking from FC Viktoria Plzeň, and thus breaking the old transfer record at the club. He was the former U-21 Czech team captain, before making his full international debut for the Czech Republic against Malta.
He made is official debut for Viking on match day one of the 2008 season, assisting the match winning goal and being voted man of the match in a 1-0 victory over Strømsgodset IF. He scored his first goal for Viking in a 1-0 victory over Tromsø IL on match day four.
