- Bali Nagar
Bali Nagar is a residential district in the West of
New Delhi ,India . Once farming land, it was sold for development in the 1970s and was primarily bought up by businessmen (many of themSikh s). It is a relatively green ex-suburb with a smallhigh road and most amenities.Geography
Bali Nagar backs onto the Ring Road and the government-run E.S.I. hospital. It is bordered by the Basai Darapur Village to the north and Raja Garden to the south. It is also bordered by the
Rajdhani College and its cricket grounds. It is divided up into several blocks - A through G. Bali Nagar has several quaint parks, the biggest of which is a couple of acres across and has a roller-blading rink.History
Bali Nagar, on anecdotal evidence, is said to have been originally owned by a landowner called Bali. His vast collection of farming lands were opened up to development in Delhi's 1970s expansion to the north and the west. Many of the new residents were Sikh businessmen and a large Sikh community still predominates. Several original houses still remain with the characteristic expansive window ledges and large glassed stairwells of the 1960s and 70s. There is an unusual old house in the G block that seems to have been inspired by an English country cottage and which is completely encircled by its own planted trees. Most residents of Bali Nagar have, though, begun to rebuild their houses as the riches of India's economic boom come in.
