Chalappally is a vibrant village in Pathanamthitta district of Kerala in the Republic of India. It is located between the two major towns in Pathanamthitta district, Ranni and Mallappally. Majority of people are farmers whose main income comes from rubber plantations. The people are from several religions and castes. There is a famous hindu temple located near Chalappally, Kunnam Annapoorneswari Devi Temple. The temple is a typical example of a Kerala village temple. Chalappally has one of the oldest high schools in Kerala called S.V. High School, Now NSS,and students who had studied in this institution are scattered and well-settled all over the world. Some of the prominent and talented teachers who taught in this school were Rajasekharan Nair(Head Master), C. P. Kuttappan Nair(English), Ponnamma (Malayalam), Ramachandran Nair (Science), Karunakaran Nair (History). Bhaskaran Nair(Hindi), Late CG Sir(Malayalam), Aruvikkal Raghavan Nair Sir, Raman Pillai Sir, and Samuel Sir (Mathematics). These are some of the pioneer teachers and all of them are now retired. Their contributions to the community and to their students who had groomed under them are beyond any measurement. Teachers with such dedication, passion to teach and talents to impart knowledge are hard to find these days. Their role in molding the minds of a generation is certainly praise-worthy.
Chalappally is part of Perumpetty Village, and festivals in Annapoornewsari Temple, Siva Temple in Perumpetty and Pranamalakkavu Devi Temple are all something we all people from chalappally remember and cherish. There are CSI and MarThoma Churches nearby; besides, there is a Muslim Mosque in 'Chettiyar Mukku' near Perumpetty as well. Annual convention at MarThoma Church is very famous and beside local speakers, foreign missionaries too are invited to enlighten the masses spiritually. People from Chalappally have been exposed to different religious beliefs and customs and are very tolerant. Now, Chalappally has changed for the better in recent times. It used to be a sleepy agriculture community, but over time, anyone who visits that place can see and feel the vibrancy of that place.
