- Xerox Docushare
DocuShare, part of the
Xerox Corporation , provides a Web-based enterprisecontent management solution, by the same name. It provides sophisticated functionality, with a pay-as-you-go model that with scaling, modular extensibility, and flexible payments claims to support a lower TCO than most.According to
Gartner , Xerox's DocuShare has matured substantially. Benefits include price, functionality and brand recognition. Xerox has built out the technology components using aJava EE architecture and adding a workflow engine andrecords management . With DocuShare, Xerox does basic document/content management well and addresses horizontal applications. It also contains awiki feature, which uses a scaled down version of the wiki language used inWikipedia .Docushare is evolving as a
Content management system . It has a broad range of functions and the latest versions include complex algorithms to speed up the search process. The new features now include not only wikis but also the ability to expand in to asocial network .Xerox DocuShare has evolved through the years. The current versions are 6.x and DocuShare CPX. DocuShare 6.0 includes basic document routing and basic content services. The premiere version of DocuShare, CPX, includes the Dralasoft workflow engine. If you want to use the workflow studio with in DocuShare you must purchase DSDN support (DocuShare Developers Network Support). This will allow custom built workflows. If you do not purchase DSDN support you can use content rules. This feature is included in DcuShare CPX.
Content Rules are predetermined workflows that have been implemented into the product. The content rules will provide specific functions of a collection or document. They allow a lay users to perform a workflow by going through a process such as if a document moves into a collection (1) move it to another area, (2) OCR a Document, (3) track specific metadata and so on.
The new version also includes content intake manager (an XMl Parser), e-mail directly to a DocuShare Collection, cover sheets (formerly the Xerox FlowPort product), an OCR engine option (provided by Nuance), an IBM Records Management option, wikis and blogs.
DocuShare is extremely intuitive and has an easy to use interface. The Autonomy (formerly Verity) search engine is used to search for documents and metadata.
Docushare competes against Microsoft Sharepoint, Oracle, Documentum, Alfresco, and many other systems.
Xerox DocuShare does not have a front end imaging component. The software relies heavily on third party imaging tools such as Kofax, Cardiff, SRC Conveyor, NSI AutoStore, Xerox Smart Document Travel, SRC File Clerk, ScanFlowStore, and DSI software systems. These system can drive scanners and multifunction devices to image documents, enter appropriate metadata and release the documents into Xerox DocuShare.
