The Vijayanta
main battle tank was built inIndia based on a licensed design of theVicker's Mk.1 . The prototype was completed in 1963 and the tank entered service in 1965. Production continued at theHeavy Vehicles Factory inAvadi until 1983 with 2200 being built.
