This article is about the Hebrew word nephesh. For the biblical concept of the human soul, see Soul in the Bible.
The Hebrew noun nephesh (נֶפֶש) is a Hebrew word which occurs in the Hebrew Bible (or Old Testament). Though it is commonly rendered as "life" or "soul" in English translations, Bible scholar Dr. Joel M. Hoffman notes that the word refers to the tangible aspects of life.[1] Human beings and animals are both described as having a nephesh.References
