M-tech automotive

= History =

M-Tech was formed in February 2006, and originally began distributing MegaSquirt Engine Management Systems. It was owned as an LLP by Matthew Thorne and Ben Hunt, but significant restructuring began in October 2006, with Ben leaving M-Tech to pursue other areas.

The company, now one of the major worldwide distributors of MegaSquirt EFI systems (and largest in the UK), came under fire from the developers of the open source system, for undercutting local suppliers. Supply was withheld throughout the summer months of 2007, but M-Tech has since renegotiated its stance, and continues to supply the ECUs.

The company is praised for its free technical support, both over e-mail and phone, as well as the more recent MegaSquirtMaps.com forum, and also its extensive 'no small print' Two Year RTB Warranty.

M-Tech was pushed into the limelight when Andy Nicholls, of AN-Racing, ran a 10 second quarter in his FWD MG ZR, running their V3 management system.

Development Work

M-Tech now pursues NDA development work with aftermarket motorfactors. One significant product is a plug-and-play system for the DB6/7 Aston Martins, allowing full EFI for cleaner and more efficient running.

The company continued to grow, and in Feb 2007 announced the development of a new 'AMS' (Advanced Motor Sport) system. Development is still continuing. (Nov 2007)

Also, a new Subaru Impreza plug-n-play system was announced in December, 2007.

On 12th April, 2008, in a joint venture with RCD Performance, M-Tech Automotive released a plug-and-play system for the Citroen Saxo VTR 1-Plug. Results are impressive, with improved power, and idle control over the factory OEM ECUs.

In May 2008, the company underwent more restructuring and Matt Thorne introduced a new Director to the company, James Munro. Since then the two have been working on many new projects, such as an ignition only ECU due for release summer 2009 and the M-Tech V4.4 with built in wide band due for release in spring 2009.

M-Tech Automotive have been supplying MegaSquirt ECUs in the UK for over 4 years, and have grown to be one of the biggest distributors in the world. They have also helped to improve the MegaSquirt product and bring new hardware and software into existence.

In August 2008, talks of a M-Tech tuning garage offering a Rolling Road (dynamometer) service were heard in the pipeline. M-Tech have now expanded to offer fitting and mapping at their Dyno-Dynamics rolling road in Wiltshire, in the South-West of England.

A number of plug-and-play ECUs have also been developed by M-Tech, including Ford EEC-IV/V, Citroen Saxo VTS/VTR, Subaru Impreza and Nissan Skyline systems, all with the features of the more expensive systems with the grass-roots budget in mind

M-Tech also compete in Hill-Climbing and Stage rallying in their M-Tech powered Impreza GC8 WRX-STi.

Wideband O2 Systems

M-Tech have also done extensive research into Wideband O2 systems, in collaboration with Loughborough University. Their findings will be open, and will be published when research is complete.

Projects Due For Release

M-Tech V4.4 (Fully mappable, fuel and igniton ready ECU with built in wideband) due spring 2009

M-tech I200 (Fully mappable ignition only system) Due summer 2009

M-Tech Digital Dash (A replacement LCD dash that has rev counter and speedometer) Late 2009

There is also some other products being developed but no information is being shared on these yet
