- Throne Verse
The Throne Verse (Arabic: آية الكرسى "ArabDIN|ʾāyatu-l-kursī"), is
ayah 255 of the secondsura ,Al-Baqara , and is widely memorized and displayed in theIslamic world .
=English Translation by Hilali-Khan=Allah! La ilaha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He), the Ever Living, the One Who sustains and protects all that exists. Neither slumber, nor sleep overtake Him. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on earth. Who is he that can intercede with Him except with His Permission? He knows what happens to them (His creatures) in this world, and what will happen to them in the Hereafter. And they will never compass anything of His Knowledge except that which He wills. His Kursi (Throne) extends over the heavens and the earth, and He feels no fatigue in guarding and preserving them. And He is the Most High, the Supreme.
Transliteration of Arabic
Allâhu Lâ ilâha illa huwal hyul-kyumula ta'khuzuhu sinatau wala naum. Lahu mâ fissamâ wâti wamâ fil-arthi* manthallazi yashfau indahû illa be-ithni, ya'lamu mâ bayna aideehim wamâ khalfahum. Wala-u-hetuna be-shai-im min ilmehî illa bimâshâ, wasia-kursi-u-hus samâ wâti wal-artha wala ya ooduhu** hifthuhumâ, wahuwal aleeul-atheem.
â, î, and û = are prolonged / slightly stretched letters, see:
Macron
* arthi = pronounced similar to "arzee"
** ooduhu = beginning is pronounced similar to "woo"It should be noted that even after mastering the Arabic language and pronunciation, learning to correctly recite the Qur'an (Tajweed) is extremely difficult due to its remarkable nature and style, thus the Qur'anic verse Quran-usc|2|23.
Here is a normal phonological transcription:al-lāhu lā ilāha illā huwa l-ḥayyu l-qayyūmu lā taʾḫuḏuhu sinätu-n wa lā nawmu-n lahu mā fī s-samawāti wa mā fī l-arḍi man ḏā llaḏī yašfaʿu ʿindahu illā bi iḏnihi yaʿlamu mā bayna aydīhim wa mā ḫalfahum walā yuḥīṭūna bi šayʾi-n min ʿilmihi illā bi mā šāʾa wasiʿa kursiyuhu s-samawāti wa l-arḍa walā yaʾuduhu ḥifẓuhumā wa huwa l-ʿaliyyu l-ʿaẓīm.
Phonetic assimilation (tajweed) is left unmarked, since it is completely regular and predictable. It this respect, the Arabic of the Koran is no different than any other language. It must be noted that Koranic tajweed has nasalisations and conditioned lengthening that do not exist in modern Arabic phonetics.
Virtures of Ayatul Kursi
The one who recites it after each of the obligatory prayers, then death will be the only thing (i.e. barrier) preventing him from entering Jannah.
(Reported be An-Nasa'i and Ibn Hibban)
