Rene Rietmeyer

Rene Rietmeyer

Rene Rietmeyer (born 1957 in Den Bosch), is a Dutch artist and the initiator of the international art project Personal Structures (2003).

Rietmeyer studied from 1979 until 1984 psychology in Innsbruck, Austria. From 1986 until 1994 he lived in Greece, where he directed a private art school. After a period of figurative painting Rietmeyer developed in 1997 his installation art containing "Boxes". These "Boxes" are three-dimensional, mostly painted objects. Since 1996 Rietmeyer exhibited in several museums and galleries in Europe, Japan and North America, such as Ludwig Museum in [Germany] , the White Cube Gallery in [Osaka] , and Eckert Fine Art in Florida.

Rietmeyer's Boxes find their origin in Minimal Art but opposit to that art-movement, Rietmeyer expresses with formal elements, such as color, shape and material, his subjectiv, personal experiences. Time, Space and Existence are important subjects in the work of Rietmeyer, therefore in 2007 he initiated the project "Personal Structures Time - Space - Existence" to be able to discuss these topics with other artists, such as Joseph Kosuth, Roman Opalka and Lawrence Weiner participate.
