It was founded in 1847 and has many campuses throughout the country.

Autonomy
On October 15th of 1957 it was ruled by decree the autonomy of UNAH, since then the UNAH enjoys a condition of receiving 6 % of the government's budget for educational purposes.
Campuses
Univercity city
Main article: UNAH university cityThe main campus is in the country's capital of Tegucigalpa and is home to the university's Medical School hospital and campus.
Other campuses
Other major campuses include the San Pedro Sula Campus, the Comayagua Campus and the La Ceiba Campus. It is currently Honduras' largest university in terms of student enrollment and one of the largest university systems in Central America.
UNAH Library
Main article: UNAH LibraryUNAH Library sistem was founded in 1970, it has more than 16,000 volumes, internet website, electronic books, all campus in UNAH have their own library.
